Our flower today is the iris. In Greek mythology, Iris was the goddess of the rainbow and a messenger for Zeus and Hera. She is also said to be a companion for female souls as they make their way to heaven. Some origin stories suggest that the flower was introduced to Egypt from Syria and the artwork of this flower is said to have been used to decorate the scepters of the pharaohs as a representation of victory and power. The flower has also been used as inspiration for the fleur-de-lis, which is a decorative symbol used by French royalty to indicate their status. This originated in the middle ages and was put on coins, shields, and coats of arms of those in the noble class. It represents the three social orders which are nobility, clergy, and peasants. There are various color meanings, with purple being associated with royalty and wisdom, yellow for passion, blue with faith and hope, and white with purity. There are over 200 species of Iris flowers, most of which bloom in early summer. Medicinally, some varieties of Iris root are used in perfumes and cosmetics as well as antiseptics, anti-inflammatories, and for skin and dental health. (as I said at the beginning, please do not consume this flower or any of the others I mention)

So with all this in mind, how can I pass along the messages to my family and loved ones and how can I best offer my friendship and personhood to the world at large? Which of the many facets of myself need love and nurturing at this time? Let’s get to the cards and find out, shall we?

The Cards

cards pulled from various decks
  • Hakamiah: loyalty, delivery from oppressors, brings victory

  • Mikhael: political authority, safe travel, protects against conspiracies

  • Temperance: balance, moderation, stability, giving and receiving

  • Queen of Pentacles: authority, rooted, grounded, taking charge of materials, resources, and finances

  • 9 of pentacles: satisfaction, wealth, able to take a break

  • Temperance: balance, moderation, stability, giving and receiving

  • Wheel of Fortune: cycles, what is up comes back down

  • The Emperor: authority, making order out of chaos

  • Judgment: heeding a call, coming out of a place of darkness into one of light

  • The Emperor: authority, making order out of chaos

  • 10 of cups: abundance, satiety, peace, love that transcends time

  • 8 of cups: time to move on, brighter and greener pastures await you.

I think the message I’m getting from my ancestors is that I’m in authority and power over my life. I have loyal and proud supporters in my corner and I am in a bright, happy, and abundant place at the moment. This is a good place to be in that I can share what I have with others at this time. I also need to be grateful for the life I have and the people in it at this time. Blessed be and thank you.
