Hello friends. The flower for the day is Carnation. This is an interesting flower to me because when I looked up the origins and how the name came to be, I found a lot of interesting associations for it. I had some trouble finding the origins of how the flower was named, but I did find some interesting theories around it, so I’d like to start by sharing those with you. One theory about the origin of the flower is that it comes from the Greek coronation ceremony. Another theory states that the root word for carnation comes from the Latin word for flesh, which is carnes. It is thought this way because the early carnations were pink in color. Whatever the theory, the scientific name is dianthus caryophyllus and this name originates from the myth of Diana. As the story goes, Diana was coming home from a ruined hunt and found a shepherd playing the flute. She blamed him for the bad hunt because of the noise and in a fit of rage, plucked out his eyes. After the anger subsided, she instantly regretted her actions and it is said that where the shepherd’s eyes fell, the first carnations grew as a sign of innocent spilled blood. Another association comes from a Christian background, in that it is said that the flowers grew from Mary’s tears as she watched Jesus die on the cross.
In a more modern sense, the flowers are worn as a way of honoring Veterans and in resistance to the effects of WWII. In France, the traditional funerary flower is the purple carnation, and in some countries, the red carnation is worn on May Day.
So with all of this, what messages do my cards have for me, and how can I do my best to honor the path I am to take moving forward in my life.

Mizrael: self-atonement, cures mental illness, deliverance from persecution
Suspended person (the hanged man): suspension, surrender, waiting, perspectives need changing, try seeing things from a different angle
The World: completion, things come full circle, old chapters end, and new ones begin
3 of swords: pain, discomfort, hurt from all sides
3 of wands: active waiting, your ship will come in soon enough
The World: completion, things come full circle, old chapters end, and new ones begin
Here, I’m seeing that there are some things I need to work on, especially where letting go is concerned. I am at the end of a cycle and must learn to let go. New doors are opening and old chapters are closing. It’s time for me to honor the old by embracing the new, and the world will be my oyster when this happens.
