Chameleon: Creating Your True Colors

Hello friend. The animal I’d like to share with you today is the chameleon. I’ve been fascinated with the chameleon since childhood actually, and I always thought having the ability to change and adapt appearances the way chameleons do was a cool thing. When I looked into this adaptation I found out some cool things about the chameleon’s ability to do this. According to an article written by Lauren Greggel for livescience.com, the reason chameleons can change the color of their skin is that the animal has the ability to adjust a special layer of cells in their skin called iridophores. This causes them to be able to take advantage of the way light reflects on their skin rather than dispersing pigments through their skin like octopuses and squids do when they camouflage.

Symbolically, the chameleon can mean that you need to be open and adaptable to your surroundings as they are changing. It could mean that your loyalties aren’t situated where they’re best serving you and that it’s best to analyze what you’re projecting into the world and how you are doing it. The way you currently seem to be doing this may be causing some frustrations to come into your space and it’s best to work to release the frustration and tension. This also carries with it a call to stay grounded and versatile during this time of change so you don’t let yourself start feeling invisible.
