Spirit Animal Oracle with guidebook- Colette Baron Reid and the Chrysalis Tarot by Toney Brooks

Research Credit- Dolphin

,

Hello friendship. Today’s animal is the dolphin. Here is another one of my favorite animals. Again, going back to the idea of mermaids and mythological sea creatures, I’ve always been fond of the image of a mermaid swimming around and being playful with these animals because from what I can tell, dolphins are smart and jovial creatures when they choose to be. So let's get into the facts and symbolism for dolphins and then we’ll get into some cards.

to get started, dolphins live in every ocean in the world and in some rivers and thus appear in mythologies and folklore from all over the world. These beautiful animals are known for being some of the most intelligent animals in the world, in fact, they are classified right along with gorillas and crows, in that they have large brains for their body size and can use tools to achieve their goals. Even more profoundly, they are known to express emotions such as mocking and teasing pod members and mourning the loss of pod members. They can travel up to 80 miles in a day and perhaps the most beloved image of the dolphin is of them jumping and diving through the waves, which clearly is meant to symbolize movement and freedom. Dolphins are also known for being polygamous animals as well.

One thing to remember is that there is a difference between porpoises and dolphins. In this regard, dolphins have longer snouts and narrower faces than porpoises. However, the symbolism can mean the same if you’re looking into it as I am with these readings.

depending on the culture, the dolphin can mean many things. For example, in the Polynesian culture, the dolphin was seen as a guide, and thusly, if you are feeling lost along your path, calling upon dolphin energy will help you get back on track. Dolphins are excellent communicators and this is a good call to action to pay attention to what you are seeing around you. Remember that your actions speak louder than words, so don’t be afraid to move forward. You have what it takes to manage your freedom and independence so don’t be afraid to tune in to the world around you.

With all this in mind, let's get into some cards for you dear friend. What do we have in store at this time?

cards pulled from various decks

dolphin: this and that are true (duality)

Ariadne (death): a change in energy from one form to another, transformation

The Companion (king of spirals[wands]): fiery, passionate, able to motivate and inspire others to pursue theirs

Ace of scrolls (swords): a new opportunity comes in to pursue your mental and emotional pursuits

Merlin (the Hero[fool]): At the start of a new journey, going down the road without knowing what comes next, there is magic in the unknown.”

The Dreamer (knight of mirrors [cups]): emotions, romantic, able to take action on their emotional and spiritual growth

In this reading, what I am seeing here is that there is a change coming in, a sense of transformation of energy in your space. This may be causing you to feel some emotions that you need to have a look at because ignoring what you’re feeling is going to keep you from progressing forward. There are new opportunities in your space right now, especially where reflecting on your mental and intellectual pursuits are concerned, but especially important is that doing this work will allow you to tap into the freedom of going down an uncharted road. Remember friend, that there is magic in the unknown and you’re not as hemmed in by old energies as you believe you are.
