For todays’ flower, we are looking at the gladiolus. This flower has its origins in South Africa, Madagascar, Europe, and the Middle East. It is part of the Iris family, with over 200 species. This hybridized plant is poisonous so please keep it away from your pets. The gladiolus is often called the sword lily in reference to the shape of the petals of its leaves. It was said to be used as a treatment for colic and treatment to draw out splinters, however, I did just mention it was poisonous so please do not try this. During the ancient Greek period, it was considered the flower of the gladiators because they wore them to protect themselves from death and ensure their victory in their fight to the death. The crowd would cover their winner in the colorful flower. Commonly, the gladiolus represents moral character, honor, strength, faithfulness, integrity, persistence, and infatuation.
With these things in mind, what can I do to remain strong and defend who I am, what can I do to remain faithful to my causes, and what energies or messages are coming through to help me persist and move forward on my goals?
