Todays’ flower is the hibiscus. To start, the flower belongs to the malvacea (or mallow) family, and the genus has around 400 species included in this. The name comes from the Greek word “hibiskos” and is attributed to Pedanius Dioscorides. The legend around this flower comes from Greece and suggests the god Adonis turned into a hibiscus flower to stop a feud between Persephone and Aphrodite from getting out of hand. Depending on the culture you’re looking at, the flower can symbolize beauty, charm, youth, first love, and the shortness of life. It is the state flower in South Korea, Hawaii Haiti, and Malaysia. Medicinally, the flower is said to be used for such things as aphrodisiacs (such that in Egypt, unmarried women weren’t allowed to drink hibiscus tea), hair growth, lowering blood pressure, diuretics, weight loss aids, and some studies suggest that there may be some cancer-fighting compounds in the flower as well. Outside of the medicinal value, the flower can also be used for fabric dyes and shoe polish.

So with this in mind, I’d like to turn now to my cards and see what messages they have for me today. I don’t have a specific question, but I am interested to see what it is I need to know for the day.

The Cards

cards pulled from various decks
  • Peridot: self-care, rejuvenation, and positivity

  • Sugilite: new interests, time with friends, sensitivity, protection, and appreciation

  • Iolite: shift your money mindset

  • Rose Quartz: open up your heart

  • Blue Calcite: act on your dreams

  • Cavansite: expand your consciousness

  • 8 of air: trapped? Not as much as you think. You can get out if you shift your thoughts

  • 2 of Earth: juggling, obligation, and desire, having a lot on your plate.

With this, I’m seeing that there is a call to self-care and rest. I’ve been feeling a bit trapped by obligations and other living things and these have been taking me away from doing the things I want to do. This is only highlighting the fact that I need to take some time to get back to myself as I work to expand on my consciousness and open my heart to what is possible at this time. If I can do this, I’ll be able to find some time to spend with friends and a shift in the way my mindset where my wealth and abundance is concerned.
