Spirit Animal Oracle- Colette Baron Reid and the Chrysalis Tarot by Toney Brooks
Lion Research credit comes from The Spirit Animal Oracle guidebook.
So admittedly, I was excited when I saw this animal come up in my drawing for today because generally, I am a cat person (really I’m a cute, furry, and non-rabid animal kind of person) but I do enjoy the company of cats. What I’m fascinated by, however, is the idea of interaction with the large cat species and lions are no exception. In researching this animal, I found out some interesting things about the animal that I’d like to share with you all. So let's get started, shall we?
To begin, the lion used to roam all over the African continent, however, they are located primarily in the Sub-Saharan portion of the continent and parts of India. they appear in various mythologies such as African, Indian, Egyptian, Greek, Sumerian and Celtic mythologies as well as in the Christian, Buddhist, and Hindu faiths. These animals are the embodiment of majesty, courage, strength, protection and give a sense of family and protection. Because lions are representative of majesty, the lion is often seen on the crests of kings and queens throughout history and interestingly enough, the Swahili word for king is ‘simba.’ (Lion King anybody? Anybody?)
If you find yourself identifying with the lion, you’re likely being asked to step up and take charge for yourself. The lion is a reminder to speak your voice, even if it shakes at first. Symbolically, lions represent the idea of tapping into the energies around you as well as a balance of power. In some prides, males and females will share the task of keeping their pride (these can include members of up to 40 or more) healthy and whole as well as support. Lionesses are usually the ones to do the hunting. But even if they may appear to be dangerous predators, they also exhibit Big Kitten Energy with those they trust. If this is resonating with you, perhaps this is a call to action to show some appreciation and affection for the loved ones in your pride.
Alright, so with all that out of the way, let's get into some cards, shall we? What do we need to know to best channel our lion energy? Here we go...

Lion Spirit: Be generous of Spirit
4 of scrolls (swords): rest, recharge, you are safe to do so
ace of stones (pentacles): a new opportunity comes in to grow your material, financial and spiritual abundances
2 of stones (pentacles): juggling, you have a lot on your plate, having a way of navigating choppy water.
So the first thing we need to understand about channeling our lion energy is that we have a lot on our plates at the moment. Whatever the responsibilities we have in our space right now, we need to realize that even as we face a number of possibly challenging things, we have the courage and power to do this. We’re safe and protected enough to rest and recharge ourselves because we have a pride of generous spirits who are willing to step in for us when we need to take a bit of time out for ourselves. Even better than this is that this may be bringing in new opportunities to grow in our various areas of abundance and this is important and special because this will help us keep ourselves and our loved ones safe, healthy, and whole.
