One of my favorite spreads to do (and one of the easiest spreads to do as well) is a simple three card spread. This spread is versatile enough to be used for a variety of questions, like readings for past, present and future readings, but I’ve often used it to answer questions with yes, no and maybe options, love readings (myself, a future partner and the situation we may find ourselves in… these are purely fantastical by the way, I don’t have a significant person in my life at the moment…) and really, it’s a great way to get a larger perspective on a single card reading. This reading, while still going with the idea of reading for past, present and future, goes in depth about important aspects of my humanity. Sooo… let’s get into the readings shall we? (Tuck in friends, this might be a long read…)
PAST
(Mind) Gynn Ap Nudd: indicates deeply buried secrets, things hidden, fears, suppressed feelings or restrictions. Something unresolved is coming to the surface.
(Body) Ostara: heralds creativity, emergence, and energy. It is in this time that new ideas and situations will take form.
(Spirit) Grim: indicates a profound and inevitable change. This doesn’t mean physical death necessarily. It is more a drastic end and a complete transformation in your life.
(Emotions) Knocker: Indicates financial or material gain and the establishing of new and firm foundations
PRESENT
(Mind) Justice: cultivate balance and learn to view events through your higher nature. Making mistakes is human but so is forgiveness.
(Body) The Wheel of Fortune: take a chance and flow with the mysteries of life. You don’t always get the lesson you want but you ALWAYS get the one you need. Embrace that idea and move ahead.
(Spirit) Seven of Leashes: Loosen up. You’re holding on to your leash too tightly. It’s okay to lighten up and have some fun every now and again.
(Emotions) One of Bones: Address your concerns with an open heart. It may be time to broaden your view and use your imagination to solve whatever problems you may be facing.
FUTURE
(Mind) 8 of swords: you feel tangled up but you can break out if you look inward, take responsibility and face the music. The trick here is that the bonds you feel are likely of your own making and you have the ability to break free.
(Body) Ace of Swords: you are strong, independent and big-hearted on top of it all. But be careful how you use your power. Sometimes getting your claws trimmed is a good thing so don’t be afraid to take responsibility for yourself.
(Spirit) 7 of swords: deception is afoot. Be aware and hold onto your assets right now.
(Emotions) Knight of Swords: Now is the time to go for what you’re chasing after BUT check your impulses. Forethought and strategy are your best tools right now.
Well then… it seems I’ve been through some things to get here haven’t I? Perhaps this is obvious to say, but lets break everything down and see where we end up. The me of the past has had to learn some hard lessons, especially through the events of last year. (For context, I lost my job and a close family member last year… I’m mentally better with these things now but I will admit having my sad moments around these events too.) There were things I kept away from the light, especially where my creative energies were concerned, but changes happened for me, and I now have the opportunity to create my own gains and a firmer foundation than I had last year. Present Meg has had to rethink some things about what I want for my life, and this has required me to think about how to balance my reality with my desires. It’s required me to see what I needed to see all along, to loosen up on the reigns and have a bit of fun in life; we only get so much time in this world after all. Most importantly, its taught me to look at my situation with an open heart and mind because there are always solutions to the problems. The me of the present is still learning this, but I need to know that the anxieties I feel are oftentimes of my own making and that if I’m careful and aware, I can get myself out of them. I also need to be fearless in chasing my goals, but I need to also know that in spite of needing to strike while the iron is hot, I need to check my impulses and my reasoning for wanting to move towards my goals in the way I do. Planning carefully and strategizing my next steps are what’s going to help me move forward in the best light possible.
