So today’s flower is the orchid. This flower was derived from the Greek word “orkhis” and was naked by a Greek botanist named Theophrastos because he thought that the flowers resemble male anatomy. There are many types of orchids; interestingly enough it is said that there are over 20,000 species, with the most popular being the moth orchid. Because of its namesake, the orchid is associated with fertility, virility, and sexuality and because of these associations, these flowers have a long history of being associated with love, fertility, and elegance throughout various cultures and time periods. In Greek culture, it was believed that parents could determine the sex of their child depending on which part of the orchid they ate. To ensure the couple would get a male child, the man would eat the thick portion of the tuber, and conversely, the woman would eat the thinner part of the flower to ensure a female child. In the Aztec culture, the vanilla orchid would be mixed with chocolate to give the drinker power and strength, and in the Victorian period, orchids were rare and seen as a sign of high luxury and taste. If these flowers were given as a gift, and the more rare the orchid, the deeper your love and passion for the other person was. The thing that I find so interesting is that orchids share a symbiotic relationship with specific types of fungi to survive, thus making them highly adaptable flowers. They have origins in every continent in the world except Antarctica and the smallest species of orchid stands only two millimeters wide and a centimeter tall. And also sidebar, orchids are one of my favorite flowers.
So what can I do to be more adaptable in my life and how can I be grateful for the symbiosis I share in my life, relationships, and with the energy around me? Let’s go to the cards and find out, shall we?

The Cards
Imamiah: the atonement of errors, destroys the power of enemies
10 of pentacles: abundance, stability, satiety, love that transcends time
3 of cups: unity, celebration, happiness, peace
Ace of wands: an opportunity to spark your passions and desires into reality
Temperance: balance, moderation, giving and receiving, light and clarity
King of Swords (reverse): abusive, brutal, heavy-handed
Here, I’m seeing there are a lot of good things coming to me but I need to be careful as there may be things I’m doing that come off as mean and abusive. There are things to look forward to during this time and I need to know that I will be just fine if I see balance and moderation in the things I choose to do with the time I have on my hands. There is a lot to celebrate in my life right now and perhaps most importantly of this is the fact that I am abundant, stable, satiated, and happy at this time and there are many opportunities to take the passions and ideas I’m having and spark them into my reality.
