Deck used is the Urban Tarot by Robin Scott
For this spread, I wanted to get really deep with my spirituality and explore what it means to me. There are a lot of misconceptions I had when starting out reading tarot, and I think part of my cause is to help dispel them. I’ve learned a lot along the way about what it means to me to be tarot reader and how it has helped me understand myself. Really, all it took was reframing my perspectives on things to understand where I really stood. Let’s see what the cards have to tell me.
The Cards

Princess of Cups: This character is a kind and gentle dreamer with one foot on the side of reality and the other in the dreamy world of emotions. This persona has the ability to take the stuff of imagination and form it into reality. The danger this persona has is becoming too wrapped up in their dreams and needs to stay grounded in order to keep things from trapping them in the world of their imagination.
8 of swords: this card shows how the tendency to think and over think can be detrimental to us. There is no rest and no respite because just as we find a valid point, other ones pop up and muddy the waters around the issues we’re facing. Each and every voice we hear has an opinion though these offer no solid answers. If we can find a middle ground of each of them great. Otherwise, perhaps it’s best to simply walk away.
Knight of swords: This character is someone who uses their mind like a blade; with them, there is no mercy. They have the ability to tackle problems with a zeal that can be a bit hard to deal with as they treat them like games they are certain of winning. They are usually the first people to point the finger when something goes wrong or someone messes up somewhere. They are the first person to prefer having a problem solved elegantly rather than practically.
Ace of swords: this card is represented in the idea of pure, clean and clear thought. This is an AHA moment where the lightbulb comes on in your head and you start fleshing out your ideas. Perhaps they will revolutionize and change the way things are done around you. Because this card is associated with the element of Air, it calls us to use our rational, logical brains in the pursuit of our endeavors.
Death: This card is every bit about the sudden and painful changes that can sometimes happen to us. Rarely does this mean that you’re going to physically die. If you see this card in a reading, perhaps it means that you are changing to create space for newness and light on your path. Ultimately this card represents rebirth and renewal as well as the end of something in your life. Death isn’t always the enemy, just as the typical Grim Reaper character isn’t always the villain. Sometimes, it’s time for something to end.
The fool: This character is just starting on their journey. They’re willing to take the leap, not knowing where they will end up. Sometimes, their childlike willingness to go ahead with the unknown is seen as foolish and naïve, but there’s a light in them that they may have trouble resisting. They must follow where the road goes and what the light illuminates.
10 of cups: This is the card of Happily Ever After. It takes the sentiment of love we get from the 9 of Cups and expands it into the near and far future. It is the hope of a stable and loving home and the dreams we have for those generations that come after we go. This card speaks of love’s ultimate dream: to live a life of love, joy and hope.
8. 3 of cups: this speaks to the joys of friendship and the emotional rewards of coming together as one unit. When we see this card, we can expect to celebrate and laugh and enjoy one another’s company because the joy and fulfillment has come to a place that is limitless. It feels like life is so happy and we wish it would never end. While logically, we now these moments can’t last forever, we’re set on enjoying the happiness while it lasts.
8 of cups: If this card appears in a spread, it’s time to reassess where you are in your current situation and take stock of what has happened to you up until this moment. It might be time to walk away from things you thought were going to work out better than they did. The longer we stay in the pit of despair and pain, the harder it will be to get ourselves out of it. It takes emotional courage to get up and walk out of a situation that isn’t serving us anymore, but sometimes, this is the only and best option we have if we what things to change.
3 of disks: With this card, we see the value of hard work and the virtue of working together for a cause bigger than yourself. While you can see the fruits of your labor coming together, the unknown factor becomes whether the endeavor will stay afloat or whether it will sink. Truth be known, this won’t yield an answer right away but it will come a lot sooner for you having made the effort to try.
6 of disks: This card is representative of the successes we desire, the ability to sit back in luxury and enjoy the finer things in life. It is the stability we crave for our families and the comfort we seek to share with others who have less than us. However, this isn’t just about the physical luxuries we seek, it’s about giving and we have enough to do just that.
7 of swords: This represents difficulties and obstacles placed in our path. We are in a position of having to deal with deceptions, whether they are by our own making or that of another. No it’s not fair and it’s not right. But we have come up against delay and dispute along the path to achievement, and it might be time to have a look at where things might be going wrong.
So with this reading, I see a lot of emotions with the cups, a lot of rationality and logic with the swords and a lot of changes happening between the Fool and the Death cards. There have certainly been some difficulties along my way that have put me in uncomfortable and unpleasant changes. What I’ve relied on in the past has stopped serving me because ultimately, I decided to change my perspective on things and have seen where I’ve hurt others. I’ve seen where there has been so much happiness and laughter and what kind of experiences I can be afforded if I work hard for them. Sometimes, I will need to look twice at what I thought was good for me because perhaps moving on is the best option. Other times I’ll have to let go. But I can’t forget my inner Fool, especially when life turns out not to work in my favor. I am strong enough to start again if I need to.
