Hey guys. So today’s flower is the peony. This flower is known to have at least 30 perennial flowers in its genus and is native to Southern Europe, Asia, and North America. The flower was named after Paeon, a physician who studied under Asclepius (the Greek god of medicine and healing.) According to the legend, Pluto (god of the Underworld) complained of Asclepius that he was reducing the number of the dead too much. This infuriated Asclepius but he managed to get even more upset when he found out that Paeon had cured Pluto by extracting a milky substance from a plant to cure him of his ailments. Asclepius got so jealous that he ordered Paeon to be killed. Zeus protected Paeon by turning him into a flower.

Some of the symbolism associated with this flower include prosperity, wealth, good fortune, dignity, and honor. This is the traditional flower in China and has been popular in the country since the Sui Dynasty (581 to 618). It was also the national flower during the Tang dynasty, the Ming Dynasty, and the Qing Era. The flower blooms from mid-April to mid-May. The Wayang National Peony Garden is one of the oldest gardens to grow the flowers. Medicinally, the plant can be used to treat bleeding wounds, period cramps asthma, gout, arthritis, fever, and cough (though I highly discourage trying this, and please seek professional medical help if you are experiencing symptoms.)

In the spirit of prosperity, abundance, and protection, I’d like to draw some cards and see what message comes through for me. To the cards we go.

The cards
