Okay guys, the next flower on the list is the Ranunculus and frankly one that I’ve been excited to share with you as it is one of my favorite flowers. This is a large genus with over 500 species of flowering plants included in it. These plants are native to Europe, Asia, and Northwest Africa. The name comes from the words for frog (rana) and little (unculus), hence how we get ranunculus. This is said to reference the fact that many species of this flower can be found blooming near water. The flower is said to symbolize attractiveness and charm. The story around these flowers goes that a beautiful nymph caught the eye of a young prince and to win her over, the prince tried his hardest to sing for her. Eventually, the nymph grew tired of listening and turned him into a flower. Another version of this story has the prince dying of heartbreak and a giant ranunculus flower appearing in his place. There are some medicinal uses to this flower as well, however, it is known to be toxic as well. The leaves are toxic because if they are damaged, they produce a toxin that causes dermatitis, diarrhea, and vomiting, however, if properly harvested the flower can be used to treat things like arthritis, gout, and nerve pain among other things. Please consult professional medical help if you are experiencing symptoms.
So with all this in mind, how can I make the most of the energies around me? What do I need to know for today?
