Deck Credit Spirit Animal Oracle- Colette Baron Reid and the Chrysalis Tarot by Toney Brooks; Crow research credit

Alright, so as you might be able to tell, I am rather fascinated with the animal world and how it allows the creatures within it to function. In my research into the animals I did for this month’s reading, I have been quite happy to do the research on a lot of the animals I’ve presented so far. However, and I must admit to this, I was quite excited to see that I had drawn the Crow card out of the spirit animal deck because as you will perhaps gather from this introduction, crows are one of the most fascinating birds to me. So let's get started here, shall we?

Crows are incredible birds for their species. They are in the same family (Corvidae) as ravens, even though they are different birds altogether. Ravens tend to be larger than grows and have longer central tail feathers than ravens. Even their vocalizations are different between the two; a raven will do a croaking noise whereas the crow will make a cawing noise. Even the flight and landing abilities are different between the two types of birds. Either way, these two birds are highly intelligent and able to make complex cognitive functions happen because of the way their brains make neural connections. The crow in particular is able to use tools to achieve its goals, recognize faces and use forms of non-verbal communication.

Symbolically, the crow represents an ability to use our wits to problem solve, adapt to our environment and see things from a different perspective. It’s also wise and helpful to take the cue from these birds and spend some time being playful with your friends. Crows can be social birds so take this as a reminder to nurture the relationships you have with others. Even deeper than that, the crow can represent transformation, positive change, cleverness, teamwork, and reciprocity These are some general ideas though the symbolism tends to vary from culture to culture.

The idea that crows became associated with graveyards and Halloween came from the idea, specifically in Swedish and German folklores because the crow was the embodiment of a departed loved one’s spirit that didn’t get a proper Christian burial. this could also play into the idea that crows are seen as intermediaries to the spiritual realm in some cultures as well.

So with that being said, let's get into the reading and see what messages come up for you. Here we go, friend.

cards pulled froom various decks

Crow: co-create with Spirit

3 of Spirals (wands): in a state of active waiting, be patient because your ship will come in

10 of Spirals (Wands): burdens, carrying a heavy load on your shoulders, responsibilities

Psyche (The World): endings and new beginnings, an old chapter ends and a new one begins

The Illusionist (Knight of Stones [pentacles}): someone who takes action on growing their material, financial and spiritual resources.

The Mime (page of spirals [wands]): someone who takes lessons learned and applies them to grow their passions and inspirations

Okay, my friend, something is ending for you, perhaps this is an old chapter of your life that has shown some difficulties and strain in you spiritually, and perhaps physically. Now that this energy is waning and a new space is being created for you, you are being asked to plan for the new path forward, but also you’re being called to stay patient and keep looking forward to your goals. You have been so inspired and engaged with your passions and inspirations and this is good, but now it’s time to take some action on creating a stable base for yourself to grow financially and in terms of your material wealth as well. As with all cycles that end, the burdens of this are ending as well, but you are making space to accept a new adventure. You’re ready my friend. Let’s see where this new path takes us shall we?
